30-Year Reunion Committee Meeting - 9/27 Notes

Attendees:
- Paul Barber
- Jimmy Jahoda
- Kristen Robb/ Evans
- Christi Samples/ Siegel
- Susan Swedien

Location Committee
• It was decided we should go ahead with the Radisson University
for Saturday, July 17, 2010 in the Humphrey Ballroom. The 180 person limitation should not be a problem for a number of reasons: 1) Class of ’79 only had 120 participants, 2) the room might be able to accommodate more since we’ll be having appetizers instead of a sit down dinner, 3) people can spill out into the hallways.

• When Alan books the hotel, he should check on what kind of
sound system is available. It was decided that there would be no band or DJ, and that classmates would be encouraged to bring their favorite music (records, CD, MP3) from high school. If the hotel doesn’t have a sound system, Christie will look into renting one.

• A food sub-committee will be setup with Christie & Susan to
organize what appetizers to order.

• June will be organizing a PowerPoint slide show of pictures
that classmates send in.

Treasurer Committee
• Kristen found the 20-Year Reunion Committee checking account,
but due to inactivity, the state has seized the $1730 that should be in it. She has submitted the work to retrieve the money.

Invitation Committee
• It was decided that postal invitations will only be sent to
those that cannot be positively reached electronically. Susan and Kristen will work on this, once the postal address list has been established with the invitations sent sometime in early Spring 2010.

Publicity Committee
• Kristen found the 20-Year Reunion class list. Paul will merge
that data with what is currently available online.

• It was decided that Paul should spend class funds of $97 for a
one year of Class Creator (https://www.classcreator.com/) the same site the Class of ’79 used (http://www.southwest79.com/).

• Once the hotel is reserved, a “Save the Date” electronic
communication will go out asking classmates 1) for pictures for the slide show, 2) to find music for the event, 3) to find classmates we can’t find.

• There are a couple of all-class reunion events which we can
use to publicize our reunion. Once Alan confirms the hotel and date, if you attend any one of these events, please tell others:

o Southwest High School All-Years Alumni Rally, Oct 2 & 3 at the
High School - http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=130469413185&ref=mf

o SWACers Fall Fall Down, Nov 20 at Bunny’s -
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=82633766957&index=1

• The StarTribune does accept free announcements for reunions,
but it only prints 8 weeks prior to event.

Other Weekend Events:
• It was decided to try an enlist the help of the out of town
classmates to organize family/spouse events. Possible events that were discussed were a city tour, golf outing, picnic. However, we’d leave that up the out of town committee to organize.

• Friday, July 16th Happy Hour and School Tour. The idea was to
have an informal happy hour at the Chatterbox – Linden Hills and also organize tours of the high school.

Other:
• Memorial – We want to do something to memorialize classmates
that have passed away, but not sure exactly what to do. We also need to compile an accurate list.
